These chairs, below, from furniture factory shavings from Marjan Van Aubel make me feel weird, but are awesome. Looks like something a mid-century modern enthusiast on Fraggle Rock would have adorning their minimalist cave.

If you have six or more hours to kill, here’s an abnormally large collection of vintage airline posters. So much good stuff in there.

If you missed it, there’s a new cover for George Orwell’s 1984 by Penguin, and it’s awesome on many, many levels. Like it or not, you’re forced to have a strong opinion on it and it sparks conversation.

Which brings me to “Hessian,” designed by Ben Pieratt. Hessian is a brand identity for sale, meaning that for the price of $18,000 it can be yours to make into whatever you want. It flips branding on its head and instead of starting with an idea and ending up with a finished product, you’re starting with the finished product without an idea. (For example, if I dig Hessian enough, I could buy it and turn it into, oh I don’t know, a bagel company or some other dumb idea I might have tomorrow). It’s an interesting concept, and certainly is well done, but to me it takes away the umpfh of what makes branding what it is — meaning. Or maybe I’m just a purist.

The Design Center blog has tons and tons of fabric swatches to gawk at and inspire… It’s hard to believe that some of the more geometrical designs date back to as early as the 1800s.

And last but not least, here’s a sweet photo of Paul Renner drawing the letter “R.” The master at work.
