The wisdom of life experiences is not just reserved for the venerable and wise. Meet Chlöe Howl, the wunderkind who’s creating catchy pop licks based off her keen ability to decipher life’s predicaments.

I think people should go traveling and see a lot of the world. People should also go out and do weird stuff, like stay out really late. I think it’s important to experience things like that because, when you’re 80-years-old, you want to tell stories of going out and doing crazy stuff, which is way more interesting than talking about something like, “Remember that one time we stayed in bed and didn’t go out?” — Chlöe Howl

Musician Chlöe Howl is more than just a teenage dream (*ahem move over Katy Perry). At the age of 16, while most of us were tripping on cheap Bacardi shots, sipping Mike’s Hard Lemonade and slutting-up our T-shirts, she was discovered for her superhuman songwriting abilities and signed to a label within just one week. Now, after recently turning 19, Chlöe is on the cusp of releasing her debut EP Rumours as well performing a string of concerts, like SXSW in Austin, Texas. With her second arrival in NYC, SHK got the latest deets on what’s shakin’ with one of the coolest Brits ever. — MEGHAN FARNSWORTH

SHK: WHAT WAS IT LIKE BEING AT SXSW? WAS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME COMING TO THE STATES?

CHLÖE HOWL: It wasn’t my first time coming to the States, but it was my first time going to Texas and actually playing in the States. Yeah! It was cool.

THE MOST AWFUL CAR CRASH HAPPENED AT SXSW THIS YEAR… WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH YOUR MIND WHEN IT HAPPENED?

It was just really mad because, on the day of the crash, we had all been hanging out at the same venue where it happened. And then three hours after I had left the venue (I was actually planning on going back), the crash happened. It was all so strange because you wouldn’t have even noticed that there was a car crash on the very next day. It was really weird.

THEN AFTER SXSW, WHERE DID YOU GO?

I went straight to New York.
