New York galleries have a bad reputation. The reception girls are usually thought to be snotty and condescending (which is not always untrue) and the patrons are supposed to be richer than God himself (and well aware of it). This season Elisa Contemporary Art Gallery is breaking the “stereotype.” Their newest show is called A Toy Story and Other Delights and features the work of Allan Innman, Megan Marlatt and Peter and Madeline Powell. The art is themed around toys of your childhood and life now, and the sometimes yearning for a simpler times, and runs through January. It’s all about the kids though, because the gallery is teaming up with a local girl scout troup and having a toy drive for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, from now until December 15th. And if that’s not enough, part of the proceeds from the art sales will go to the American Red Cross. So don your best clothes and go rub elbows with some of the art world’s best. Just remember, it’s all about the kids. — Carsen Russell
