Post the “official-ness” of the spring 2014 edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, the underrated fashion mecca plays host to Australian Indigenous Fashion Week.

At SHK, we’re always finding ourselves charmed by Australian Fashion designers… Maybe it’s our fucking awesome chill’d out attitude, or maybe it’s because the underrated fashion capital continuously freshens things up. With that in mind, it’s no shocker that we’re stoked to learn that this year — post the country’s spring Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week events — the Sydney Town Hall will act as headquarters for the debut of the Australian Indigenous Fashion Week. Created over the past two years by All the Perks alongside Indigenous Business Australia and National Indigenous TV, the overall showcase will include the works of 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Business working across fashion, accessories, textiles, furniture and crafts (according to WWD).

Weather or not the event spruces up good stuff is yet to be seen, and even though we aren’t usually into Fashion Week (I pretty much detest it), there’s always something positive about gathering a creative community around new talent… Reminds me of what Fashion Week was really about in the first place. Anyways, with runway shows, workshops, a trade fair and more, AIFW will include brands such as Kooey Swimwear, Desert Designs, Roopa Pemmaraju and many other up-and-comers possibly worthy of a closer look. — RACHEL ELEANOR SUTTON

More Aussie fashion labels we can’t get enough of here.
