Love American Horror Story? Wanna get in on some of that action? In real life? Get excited… The haunted Poveglia island, which has been deemed “the island of madness,” “hell” and “the most haunted place on Earth” is up for grabs.

Hmmm… I hope there’s some documentary filmmaker/photographer out there who can jump on this opportunity ASAP. If there were ever a place to experiment with the half-living/half-dead, this would be it.

Usually, SHK’s horror stories revolve around dating, but this one is equally as terrifying. Back in the wayday, Poveglia was a checkpoint for ships that were en route to Venice (it’s right outside of Venice, prime real estate). Then, as happened back in those days, two ships stopped in (around 1793) with plague victims — leaving the island shut off as a quarantine zone. Everyone on the island was stuck there for over a century, and obviously, a ton of people died. So you can see how one would automatically deem this island haunted, seeing as such a situation just erks creepiness from everywhere, but it gets better. The place was later made into a hospital, around 1922… A mental hospital, of course. Enter: more “rumors.” It’s said that Poveglia then became home to “a number of crude lobotomies, performed by a doctor who’d been driven mad by the ghosts. He later flung himself off the bell tower.” (via gizmodo) Ekkk. That’s a pretty fucked up story. Maybe this guy, who bought this ghost in a jar on ebay for 50k, would be interested?
