Dan Deacon releases America this week.

Dan Deacon returns this week with his latest LP America, a complete album from start to finish, showcasing the depth of his ability as an electronic artist. The record is divided into two sections. The first, if you will, is a series of singles and stand-alone tracks. The latter is a kind of four-part mini-epic simply entitled, “USA,” and demonstrates the full spectrum of Dan Deacon’s vision on America. America is about contrast and how seemingly conflicting styles and concepts can co-exist. Deacon brilliantly combines noise, driving rhythms and elements of minimalist electro on tracks such as “Lots” and “Crash Jam.” To contrast, tracks like “Pretty Boy” beautifully demonstrate Deacon’s vision and advanced composition skills. This album might sound harsh at first to the untrained ear, but make no mistake; this album is full of quality. It is a grower. Your ear will be intrigued by the first listen and your curiosity will be piqued. By about the eighth or ninth time through, you will finally get it. Still, don’t just take my word for it. Deacon gives his own detailed summary of the album and what it means to him on the front page of his website. Personally I think this is a great touch to have a musician offer such a succinct and detailed explanation of their work and what influenced them to make it. Nice one Dan! —  James Fletcher
