SHK: IF YOU COULD TRAVEL TO ONE PLACE RIGHT NOW WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Kara Lichtenstein: I’ve been craving and doing research on a trip to Italy lately. It would be a dream come true to take a few weeks to explore the country and drink copious amounts of wine.

DID YOUR PARENTS PLACE AN IMPORTANCE ON FOOD GROWING UP?

Nope! Food isn’t important to either of my parents. People that know my family always ask me “where did you get your love for food?!” My aunt played a big role though. She loves great food & wine and cooking with her while sipping cocktails is one of my favorite things to do.

WHAT’S YOUR COFFEE ORDER?

I go to La Colombe nearly every morning, but I like to switch it up… Sometimes I’ll do iced coffee – and they serve it with a shot of espresso in it – bonus! Other times I’ll do regular or a cappuccino. Variety is the spice of life!

FAVORITE WINE OF ALL TIME?

I hate this question! So tough to say… But I would drink Txakolina rosé morning, noon, & night if it were socially acceptable.

WHEN I’M HAVING DESSERT IT’S DEFINITELY…

In liquid form. I love desserts, but two bites is usually plenty so I prefer to drink it and opt for a night cap.

ONE THING I WILL NEVER DARE TO EAT IS…

Nothing. I’d try anything. I mean if we’re taking this super literally than human flesh? But I’d hope that we’re a given. Oh, and spiders! I don’t like when they’re within 20 feet of me let alone in my mouth. 

IF I COULD EAT ONE FOOD FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE IT WOULD BE…

I’ve said before that if I could only eat at one restaurant every day for the rest of my life it would be Fishing with Dynamite in Manhattan Beach, CA. But if I had to pick one dish to eat forever, it’d be… Shit. A) steak, B) king crab, C) pepperoni pizza, or D) fried chicken and cornbread. That’s totally one, right? 

WHEN I WANT TO IMPRESS SOMEONE I WHIP UP SOME…

I’d “cook” up a gorgeous charcuterie board before they arrived so I could sit and enjoy with them.

Chicago is kicking ass and taking names and I’m thrilled I get to call it home.

Chef David LeFevre of Fishing with Dynamite. If I’m going to eat there every day for the rest of my life, I better like him right?

 An avocado with salt and peppa.

DOES THE DECOR OF A RESTAURANT MATTER TO YOU?

If it were ugly and had great food I’d still go… Sometimes I go to restaurants I hardly even like solely for the atmosphere or patio. 

BREAKFAST, LUNCH, OR DINNER?

Dinner. I could eat sawdust for breakfast and lunch if I were going to a killer dinner that night.

I LOVE BEING A FOOD BLOGGER BECAUSE…

I’d say I’m more of a Social Media Foodist than a blogger. I tweet/Instagram more than I blog. But I love it because I eat a ton of food, why not share it with people? If they care, cool! I dig it. 

WHAT ARE YOU COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH, BESIDES FOOD?

 Wine, duh. And summer. Put me outside in the sunshine with a glass of wine (or let’s be real, a bottle) and I’m golden. That’s my happy place.
