She got a job blogging for Free People by making a self-made introduction video. Since, she has traveled all over the world, and has just launched her own Etsy shop that is a home to all of her own creations. Find out why Brigette Muller just became our favorite redheaded blogger. You’re about to fall in love.

SHK: NUMBER ONE RULE FOR THRIFTING?

Brigette Muller: Know your aesthetic, keep an open mind, and see the potential in everything. Most of the time, thrift stores are not the most beautiful places to spend your day, but if you zero in on each object or piece of clothing as you look at it, you can start picturing exactly how it will fit into your life – or not. And knowing your aesthetic helps you to quickly pass over the things that won’t be of interest to you.

DESCRIBE YOUR BEDROOM IN THREE WORDS.

Nature-filled and messy, yet inviting.

IF YOU COULD ONLY SHOP AT ONE STORE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE  IT WOULD BE…

Can we make some sort of Anthropologie/Free People hybrid? Anthro for the home stuff, Freeps for the clothes.

A MOTTO I LIVE BY IS…

There is humor and beauty to be found in all places at all times.

YOU’RE A WORLD TRAVELER. WHAT IS ONE PLACE THAT EVERYONE NEEDS TO VISIT DURING THEIR LIFE?

Bled, Slovenia. That place has the most beautiful hues of blues and greens I have ever laid eyes on.

WHEN YOU FEEL AN OUTFIT IS LACKING SOMETHING YOU AUTOMATICALLY REACH FOR

A) TIGHTS OR KNIT SOCKS

B) JEWLERY

C) A COOL PAIR OF SHOES

D) SOMETHING TO PUT IN MY HAIR

A. More specifically: thigh highs, thigh highs, thigh highs.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST THING YOU EVER MADE?

Tough one! I have no idea, but the first big project I can remember being proud of was completely covering my bedroom walls from top to bottom with magazine pages when I was, like, 16. I’m still proud of it, to be honest.

TOP THREE SOURCES OF INSPIRATION FOR CREATING HOME DECOR?

The outdoors, sunlight at magic hour, and good vibes. Well, and Pinterest, of course.

BEST PART ABOUT HAVING AN ETSY SHOP?

I’m brand new at it, but I love having the ability to share what I make with people all over the world. It makes connecting with people much more tangible than what can be done digitally. Plus, it gives me an excuse to keep creating.

WORST PART ABOUT HAVING AN ETSY SHOP?

The uncertainty of not knowing if my creations will be well-received. I fear that someone will order something, and then when they see it in person, be like, “Wait. I just paid money for this?” It’s nerve-wracking!

WE HEARD YOU’RE JUST ENGAGED. DESCRIBE THE RING AND THE LOVE.

Oh my gosh. So happy you asked this. I’m actually not at all — I don’t even have a boyfriend at the moment. One thing people should know about me is that you can’t trust a damn thing I put out on social media. One of my best friends is engaged, so I of course thought it would be hilarious to Instagram a picture of myself with her ring on my finger and a giant smile on my face. I’m so sorry for fooling you guys, haha! But the ring is gorgeous and their love is one of the truest I’ve ever witnessed.

MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU’VE LEARNED FROM WORKING WITH FREE PEOPLE?

I think the most valuable lesson would be to always be me, no matter what; to stay creative, stay inspired, and never stop evolving into the very best version of myself.

MOST WORN ACCESSORIES?

Right now I’m all about necklaces. I’m obsessed with shorter lengths these days, so I’ve been double-wrapping some of my favorites into chokers and then pairing them with longer pieces.

FINISH THE SENTENCE: EVERY GIRL NEEDS A…

Signature look. For me, that’d be a tiny dress or skirt, a pair of thigh highs, and some ankle boots. Hummusbird to the max.

HAVING RED HAIR IS…

The reason I never ever wear anything other than earth tones.

ONE ITEM OF CLOTHING/ACCESSORY THAT YOU WILL NEVER GET RID OF?

Haha, I have this long-sleeved pale pink mini dress I got from H&M about 4 years ago and I just can NOT get rid of it. It’s so freaking flattering, and works during every season. I actually wore it on my first and last day of working at the Free People home office, so now I’m extra attached. It’s totally bleach-stained at this point — it’s certainly seen better days. But, whatever.

GO TO SNACK? WHAT’S THE RECIPE?

Hummus, of course! If not that, though, mix some quinoa with half a mashed avocado and see what happens. If you eat cheese, add a little feta. The consistency of this combination is to die for.

WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?

I have a Canon 60D and a couple of lenses. I feel like it’s more about the lighting, the styling, and then the editing that makes a photo what it is. Although it would be pretty nice to get my paws on a 5D Mark III…

WHERE DO YOU MAKE YOUR CREATIONS?

In my bedroom! Currently on my bed with me are two wooden bowls, two acrylic paint pens, a ball of hemp, and some feathers. So0o typical.

MOST DARING THING YOU’VE EVER HAD TO DO FOR YOUR CAREER?

Well, before I got the job at Free People, I made them a video to introduce myself and tell them why I wanted to blog for them (click play in the featured image!). I think that was kind of daring, but it was so fun to make. Once I had the job, though, I did a solo trip where I drove from Philly up to Maine, then to Vermont, and back to Maine. I’m terrible with directions and am really not a fan of driving, so when I lost phone service at sundown on a windy road in Vermont, you better believe the tears started to flow. It’s all good, though. I’m proud of myself for getting through it!

MY IDEA OF A PERFECT DAY IS…

Waking up with the sun and immediately making something with my hands. Spending time alone outside in nature, preferably in a shady spot by a stream. Going thrifting. Coming back to my space, lighting candles, and blasting music while I create some more. Then spending the evening in hysterical laughter with the people I love most. Oh, a lot of eating would be involved throughout the day, too.

I’M HAVING THE MOST FUN WHEN…

I’m with my two sisters. There are 7 years between the youngest and the oldest, but our brains are one and the same. The three of us could laugh about the same comical hypothetical scenario for two hours straight without it ever getting old.

A SONG THAT DESCRIBES YOUR PERSONALITY TODAY.

I don’t know if this really describes my personality, but Jhene Aiko’s “Stay Ready” has been my anthem lately – especially the second half, when the song changes. I don’t know what it is, but her words really grab me. That girl kills it.
